Bitfinex is a victim of a heist
Lichtenstein had infiltrated Bitfinex in August 2016 and stole nearly 120,000 Bitcoin.
The assets, when stolen, were valued at approximately $72,000,000. According to CoinGecko, the crypto-market surge has pushed Bitcoin to all-time records since Donald Trump’s election in November. These Bitcoin would now be worth approximately $11.2 billion.
Prosecutors claim that Morgan helped Lichtenstein to launder the funds stolen until their arrest. Morgan and Lichtenstein faced charges of conspiracy to launder money and to defraud United States. The DOJ said that while the two were found guilty in the Bitfinex matter, there was still a lot of evidence to support their conviction. “no victims.”
"For Crime Victims’ Rights Act purposes, the government’s position is that there are no 'victims' of the offenses of conviction,” the DOJ said. “The Department is providing this notice out of an abundance of caution.”
In December, a video of a prison call from Lichtenstein was shared via his X account, with the convicted thief saying "Razzlekhan is free!" and claiming that it was all his fault and that his wife wasn't involved.
Hollywood has taken notice of Morgan and Lichtenstein’s story inspiring both a recent Netflix documentary, “The Biggest Heist Ever,” and an upcoming Amazon Studios feature film called "Dutch & Razzlekhan.”
While Morgan awaits her fate, the lyricist-turned-outlaw has been creating videos on the celebrity video message platform Cameo as a way to stay connected with fans—and earn some cash—by offering personalized shoutouts.
“I really missed interacting with my fans during our case,” Morgan said. “I want to do something even more meaningful for my community of Razzlers after I’m out, but for now, Cameo seemed like an easy way to do that. I probably won’t keep doing Cameo after I get out of prison, but it’s been a lot of fun to do on house arrest, though.”
